AI Clipping Tools Weren’t Built For Long Streams, Scrubjay is

After an 8 hour Twitch, Kick, or YouTube stream, the next natural step is to find clips to share that help you grow your audience. There are many AI clipping tools (e.g. OpusClip, Vizard, Klap) that can find highlights in footage. However, they aren’t designed for long streams, and using them on a file this large leads to a number of problems.
Per-Minute Credits Make Long Streams Expensive
Both OpusClip and Vizard use a credit system, where you are charged for each minute of video processed. For a long stream, this means either paying to analyze dead time, or carefully selecting the parts of the stream you want to upload.
OpusClip’s Pro tier has a monthly quota of 300 processing credits, and costs $29 per month. Meanwhile, a single 8-hour stream consumes 480 processing credits, which already exceeds OpusClip’s monthly quota, and means you need to pay extra for a credit top-up. Calculating the monthly cost – 4 streams a week at 8 hours each totals to 128 hours a month, or 7,700 credits – exceeding more than 25 times the Pro quota.
Long Streams are Slow to Upload, Queue, and Process
On average an 8-hour 1080p 60fps VOD is around 22 GB. Uploading a file of this size to a cloud software can take an hour or more.
Once uploaded, the video is then added to the end of the processing queue, behind other users who are currently waiting their turn. This queue can get busy so some products let you pay extra to skip the line.
Some products shorten the upload time via server-to-server transfer by taking a Twitch or YouTube link to your video. This helps, but you still need to wait in the processing queue.
Length Caps Force You to Split Your Stream
Most tools cap how long a single video can be. Klap’s entry plan stops at 45 minutes and its highest listed plan caps out at 3 hours. Vizard tops out at 6 hours on its top plan.
An 8 hour stream would need to be split into 2 or 3 segments before it could be uploaded. This isn’t just a chore, each segment lives in its own world. Meaning it gets sent to the processing queue independently, analyzed separately, and yields its own list of clip recommendations, completely unaware of the others.
These problems aren’t an accident. These tools are designed for other kinds of content – podcasts, interviews, marketing videos, etc. A Twitch stream has a different shape, with the good parts spread unevenly throughout lots of dead time.
Scrubjay is a Clipping Tool Built for Long Streams
We built Scrubjay from the ground up specifically to work well with long footage.
The key differentiator: it runs locally on your computer using machine learning algorithms that we designed to work well on consumer hardware. The processing is brought to you instead of you sending your footage to the cloud.
This has many key wins for long video:
- No Credits. One flat monthly price. You can run it on every stream without thinking about your wallet, even those you think might not contain anything exciting. Who knows what it will find?
- No length caps. No need to chop up your videos to add them to Scrubjay. It processes your entire stream no matter how long it is, and treats it as a single unit. That means clip rankings take the entire stream into account.
- No uploads, No cloud, No queue. Scrubjay starts processing right away, processing an 8 hour stream in roughly 8 minutes. Your footage never leaves your machine.
