Release 0.14.0 October 21, 2026

Scrubjay version 0.14.0 has been released! Visit scrubjay.app to download the latest installer. If you already have Scrubjay, you can update to 0.14 from the update notification on the application bar.

New Features

Shorts Editor

Turn any moment into a vertical short: right-click it in the Moments tab and choose ‘Export as Short’.
Shorts are created with a stacked layout. Frame the top and bottom as you like. Breaking aspect ratio will letterbox the frame with a blurred background.
A live preview sits next to your video, with its own timeline underneath so you can play it back as you work.
Captions are made from the transcript, and are burned into your short.
Fix any word by retyping, moving or resizing it on the timeline.
Split, join and move words between caption pages, with a preview of each page as you edit.
Drag the captions to wherever you want them on the short.
Exports as a 1080×1920 MP4, ready to upload.

New Display Page Layout

The display page is now made of panes you can resize by dragging the dividers between them.
The transcript now has its own column, next to the video, so it stays in view while you work in the Suggestions, Moments and Markers tabs.
Search now sits across the top of the page, and searches the transcript, timeline and suggestions together.
The timeline runs along the bottom of the page.

Video Markers

A new Marker tool (the flag on the editor toolbar) lets you drag across the timeline to mark any stretch of a video.
Each marker shows as a small flag along the bottom of the timeline. Click a flag to select its marker and see its full span.
Double-click a flag to write notes about that stretch. Hover over a flag to read its notes without opening them.
Drag the edges of a selected marker to adjust where it starts and ends.
All of a video’s markers are listed in the new Markers tab, next to Moments.
Click a marker to jump to it. Right-click to delete it, or use Clear all to remove every marker on the video.
Export your markers as a .csv file, with each marker’s start, end, length and notes, from the Export menu.
Show or hide markers on the timeline with the flag checkbox on the editor toolbar.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Switch editor tools from the keyboard: S for Select, A for Add moment, and M for Marker.
Hover the info icon on the right of the editor toolbar for a full list of the display page’s keyboard and mouse shortcuts.
Hover any editor tool to see its name and shortcut.

Visual Updates

Tooltips across the app now use the dark theme, to match the rest of the interface.

Scrubjay version 0.10.0 has been released! Visit scrubjay.app to download the latest installer. If you already have Scrubjay, you can update to 0.10 in the Settings > About section, or from the update notification on the application bar.

System Updates

Scrubjay Icon
- The main icon has a new look!
Notification when video is done processing. Clicking on the notification from anywhere in the application will take you to the results of the newly processed video.
‘Recorded Date’ property added to videos.
- This will default to the day the file was created on your computer. Overridable on the add/edit video form.
Added ‘whisper-large-v3-turbo.bin’ option as a transcription model.
- We anticipate this will be the preferred model for most users. It requires roughly the same system resources as ‘whisper-medium.en.bin’, but has roughly the accuracy of ‘whisper-large-v3’. We encourage everyone to give it a try!

Smart Timeline

Previously called the editor, going forward will be referred to as the Smart Timeline
Updated look and feel, to be more in line with the rest of the UI.
Colors have been adjusted to stand out more for greater visual clarity.
- The emotionality graph updated from the gray bars to a blue line chart
- Search results, Quick suggestions, & Moments are highlighted yellow, pink, & green respectively.

Video Library

Video Title Filter added to the toolbar. Quickly filter down the videos in your library based on the title. Works alongside any sorting & grouping.
‘Add Video’ button moved back into the toolbar.
Videos now display the ‘Date Recorded’ property at the bottom of their card.
Replaced ‘Recently Added’ sort with ‘Date Recorded’
- Date Recorded should give more flexibility in the ordering of the videos in your library as it’s an editable property. A ‘Recently Opened’ filter is in the pipeline to offset the removal of ‘Recently Added’.

Video Category Manager

Accessible from the menu next to ‘Add Video’ in the library toolbar.
Add, Edit, Delete, & Reorder categories from this widget.

New Features

Projects Page

A new “Projects” icon in the side-bar has been added. Clicking this icon takes you to the Projects page. On the Projects page you can organize your videos into Projects.
A Project is intended to represent a collection of videos whose moments all share some common goal. For example, maybe you are making a compilation video of clips from all the VODs from last month – you can organize those VODs into a Project in order to maintain a clear workspace.
You can click Add Videos to open up a dialog where you can select which videos to add.
- Use the search bar to find videos by title, or use the category filter drop down to only see videos in a certain category.
- After selecting a video to add, you can choose whether or not to also import the video’s existing moments into the Project.
- A video can belong to multiple Projects.
You can see the videos in your Project in the Videos tab.
- Here you can also remove videos by hovering over a video and clicking Remove.
In the moments tab you can see the collection of moments you have added to the Project.
- Clicking Add Moment opens up a dialog that lets you select moments to add from the videos in the Project.
Projects is an experimental feature and will undergo significant additional feature development. We decided to release it in its current state to get feedback from users as we continue to improve it.

Video Transcript Redesign

Reduced the footprint of each transcript line.
- Each transcript line is now a single line of text with its corresponding start time. The current transcript line is highlighted, and the upcoming transcript line is shadowed.
- Our aim is to enable users to get a broader view of where they are in the transcript. The previous transcript design made poor use of vertical space, making it difficult to get one’s bearings at a glance.
Transcript lines in search results are now highlighted as they are spoken.
- Before, when searching the transcript, it was easy to get lost in the search results since spoken line highlighting wasn’t supported during search.
- This change should make it easier for users to follow along as they navigate between search results during playback.
Improved transcript search.
- Transcript search now is “fuzzy”, meaning along with exact matches it should now also return partial matches, matches that account for spelling errors, and matches by sound (e.g., “owner” matching “oner”).
- Matches are classified as “strong match” or “weak match”. Strong matches (indicated in the UI with bright yellow) are those that are near-exact, while weak matches (indicated with dark yellow) are matches that are by sound, or include many spelling errors.

New Features

UI Revamp

Overall improvements in user interface style, clarity, and responsiveness.
- We have switched to a new UI framework that gives us more flexibility in customizing UI elements and theming, while also bringing significant performance improvements.

Transcription Model Selection

Three different models are available:
- whisper-small.en.bin (Default)
- whisper-medium.en.bin (4Gb VRAM recommended)
- whisper-large-v3.bin (6Gb VRAM recommended)
whisper-small.en.bin is selected by default, which we feel provides adequate transcription quality across a range of low to medium power devices. This was the model shipped with previous versions.
Those with beefier machines can experiment with the whisper-medium.en.bin and whisper-large-v3.bin, both of which drastically improve transcription quality at the cost of making video processing take 10-30% longer.
In Settings > Model Selection you can now select which transcription model to use. Note that selecting a model you haven’t used before will trigger a model download.
- We wanted to give users the choice to pick their own tradeoff between video processing time and transcription quality.

Video Library

Added a Library Toolbar for Sorting & Grouping of videos.
Control the grouping of your videos using the new “Group by” element in the top toolbar. Videos are ungrouped by default.
Sort the ordering of your videos by “Date added”, “Title” and “Duration”. Videos are ordered by “Date added” by default.
Adjusted the icons on videos to more clearly communicate the video’s state.
- An hourglass icon indicates a video is waiting to be processed.
- A circular progress bar indicates that a video is currently being processed.
- A red exclamation mark indicates a video’s processing has failed.
You can now drag and drop multiple videos onto the video library page to add them all to your library.
- A table will pop up letting you set the category of each video.

Quick Suggestions Improvements

Additional information is now displayed:
- At the top you’ll find a list of “chips” that indicate the most important reasons for why it was suggested.
- An aggregate score displays our confidence in the quality of the suggestion.
- At the bottom is an expandable transcript so you can see at a glance the content of the suggestion.
Scores derive from following criteria: (1) the amount of sustained energy, (2) the peak energy, (3) the amount of laughter and yelling, and (4) clip duration.
- Over time we plan to add more factors and tune their balance to improve the quality of our suggestions.
Quick suggestions are now sorted by score rather than chronologically. This can be adjusted using the Sort by selector.
- Sorting by score should jump a user to the most promising quick suggestions immediately. We found that chronological order made it difficult for users to at a glance figure out which Quick Suggestions were promising.
The editor now automatically zooms in on the time range of selected Quick Suggestions. By default, opening the Quick Suggestions tab will automatically select the highest scoring suggestion.
- We found that the bird’s eye view of all quick suggestions over the editor was not particularly legible to users. You can still zoom out the editor to see all the quick suggestions.

Known Issues

KnownAdding videos with non-HD aspect ratios distort the Video Display Page and may make elements on the page difficult to interact with. This is a problem particularly with tall videos.

New Features

System Updates

Large files (e.g., machine learning models) are no longer bundled with the application and instead are downloaded after install. This will lead to performance improvements in install and update.
- Previously the models being bundled with the application made the application installer very large. This had the effect of making update times very long and error-prone. Going forward when additional models are added, expect to be prompted after the update to download them (which should only take a few minutes).
Improved performance for actions like exporting moments and adding videos.

Emotion Detection Adjustments

More laughter should be detected.
- We tuned our detector to accept more sounds as laughter. However, this might come at the cost of it surfacing more "false positives". Tuning this will be an ongoing process following user feedback.

Video Editor Page

Scream track has been removed until more tuning is completed.
"Timeline" tab has been renamed to "Transcript."
The search experience has been unified across all tabs. The "Search" tab has been removed, and a search field has been added to each tab. This search field searches the text of cards under its associated tab.
Added filtering to Quick Suggestions. Saved and dismissed suggestions can now be displayed on the editor and the suggestion list. No longer are they permanently hidden.
"Export Moments" and "Export Transcript" functionality now has a clear button next to the search bar using the download icon.
Right click menu added to Moment cards for edit or delete actions.
Right click menu added to Quick Suggestion cards for save or dismiss actions.
While exporting moments you can now select which individual moments to export and what folder to export to.

Video Library Page

Drag and drop videos from your file explorer onto your video library to import them into the application.

Bug Fixes

FixedWhen editing a moment or suggestion, the top left & right of the bar was not draggable.
FixedLong video titles would break out of the title bar.
FixedEditor remained on the pencil tool after saving a moment.
